What is Recipe Yield Calculator?

The recipe yield calculator handles the basic portioning math: how big is a single serving when you split a known total into a known number of portions?

Formula

Per serving = total weight ÷ servings. Per-serving calories = total calories ÷ servings.

Worked example

1500 g casserole, 6 servings = 250 g per serving (~9 oz). 2400 calories total = 400 calories per serving.

How to use this calculator

  1. Weigh the total cooked dish.
  2. Decide how many servings you want.
  3. Optionally add total calories to get per-serving calories.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know the total calories?

Sum each ingredient's calories before cooking. Most recipe apps will calculate this; or enter ingredients in MyFitnessPal.

What's a "standard" serving size?

Varies by food. Pasta: 1 cup cooked (~140g). Rice: 3/4 cup (~125g). Meat: 3 oz cooked (85g). Mixed dishes: 1.5–2 cups.

Should I weigh before or after cooking?

For nutrition purposes, weigh after cooking and divide. Calories don't change but weight changes (water loss in roasting, water gain in pasta cooking).

How does this help meal prep?

Plan by total weight: cook a 2 kg batch, divide into 8 × 250 g portions, store. Each container has known weight and known calories.
