What is Days Until Date Calculator?
The days until calculator is a simple countdown: pick a future date and see exactly how many days, weeks, and months remain between now and then. Handy for milestone planning — retirement, graduation, weddings, holidays, or project deadlines.
Formula
Days until = (Target date − Today) measured in whole days.
Week and month figures are straight conversions: weeks = days ÷ 7, months ≈ days ÷ 30.4375 (the average month length in a Gregorian year). The years/months/days breakdown uses the same borrowing method as age calculators.
Worked example
Counting from April 20, 2026 to January 1, 2027:
- 256 days
- ≈ 36.6 weeks
- ≈ 8.4 months
- 8 months, 12 days (breakdown)

Frequently asked questions
Is the count inclusive of both dates?
No — it is the exclusive difference. Today at midnight to midnight tomorrow is "1 day until." If you need an inclusive count, add 1.
Does the calculator account for leap years?
Yes. The underlying subtraction uses JavaScript Date objects, which handle leap years automatically.
Why are months approximate?
Months have different lengths (28–31 days). The simple months number uses 30.4375-day averages; the breakdown below it uses calendar-aware subtraction and is exact.
How many days until Christmas?
Pick December 25 of the relevant year as the target — the calculator does the rest. As of April 20, 2026: 249 days until December 25, 2026.
